That sounds familiar...

On the 4th of July, we watched the DC fireworks on tv. The orchestra played Ode To Joy, and Jenna immediately said "That's from the 9th Symphony!"

Then, this being Sesame Street's 40th birthday, Big Bird came on and started to conduct the orchestra as it played the show's theme song. Jenna said, "Hmmm, that sounds familiar..." (but she couldn't quite place it).

Ashley

One of the things we'll miss most about Ohio is Ashley, our favorite hair dresser in the world. We got to get one last haircut this past week, and we'll miss her a lot.

Strawberry Festival!

Had a great time at the Troy Ohio Strawberry Festival last weekend! And today, we're going to the Yellow Springs Street Fest - can't wait!

Kindergarten Cartography

One of Jenna's favorite projects at school was making maps. Over the past two years, she assembled quite a collection, and we hung them on the wall in the basement.

She also learned about the flags of each country and the native animals. It was always fun to hear her spontaneously announce that animal x lives in country y.

Here's a closeup of her Middle East map:

Sleepee Cat

Here's a picture I drew of a frog and a sleepee cat. Daddy thought it was pretty funny.

Goats and Ponies

Every day on the way to school and on the way home, we drive past a little pasture with goats and ponies in it. We always say "Hi goats and ponies!" (there's a rooster there too).

One day, the animals were pretty close to the road, so Daddy pulled over and let me get out of the car. The ponies came over to say hi.

Meeting Rick Riordan

My favorite author is Rick Riordan - he wrote the Percy Jackson series about characters from Greek mythology still living in the world today. Daddy took me to meet him at a local book shop. Here's me standing by the autograph line sign.

And here I am getting my book signed my him. It was so cool!

Let's Go Fly A Kite

We went kite flying on Saturday - it was awesome. We both were able to launch the kite ourselves and we both got to fly it all by ourselves.

Little Jenna On The Praries

Daddy took this picture of me standing on a wooden fence. I said it was like Little House on the Prarie.

Hats!

We made beautiful hats out of paper bags at a birthday party last week. I love my hat.

Spot The Real Kid

Daddy took this picture of me standing with a bunch of maniquins at Old Navy.

Pink Camo

Daddy picked up some pink camouflage shirts for us, to celebrate his graduation. Now we can hide in a pink jungle.

Beth's Fort

And Beth's favorite thing lately has been to hang out and read in the little fort she built in her room. We haven't actually seen her in days.

Jenna Reading

Jenna's reading has really taken off - here she is making a list of the books she wanted to buy or borrow from the library.

Her latest favorite is Beth's Calvin & Hobbes books.

Backyard Hawk!

Mommy took this great picture of a hawk in a tree in our back yard.

Jenna's Unicorn Cake

Daddy drew a unicorn for Jenna's REAL birthday cake. It was so yummy!

Girl Mustaches!

Daddy took us to Cici's Pizza and we got these great mustaches. Daddy got a mustache too!

Happy Birthday, Times Two!

We did a combined birthday party for the girls this weekend - here are pictures of them blowing out candles at the Bowling Alley.

A very fun time was had by all!

Beth's Observations, Part II

"Dad, I found some rope in my steak."

(said at dinner time, after closely examining a small piece of steak... um, it wasn't actually rope)

Bethany's Observations

"Mom, I don't think my pants are safe."

(Said about 15 minutes after bedtime, having seen some static electricity sparks jumping around on her PJ pants).

Words Of Wisdom From Jenna

"Beth, don't be wishin' up for your own hopes!"

(said in response to some pre-game bravado from her older sister)

Swimming Lessons and Beads

Swimming lessons have started up again and I'm doing really well. I can still float and my specialty is swimming on my back. I went off the diving board and it felt like I was flying (in an OK way).

Now for the beads part. I have been making things out of beads on a pegboard. So far I have made a cake, a crab, a slice of cake, a butterfly and Santa's sleigh. When I'm done making them on the pegboard I take them to Daddy and he irons them so they all stick together.

That's all for now.

Sony Wonder Technology Lab

In New York City, we visited the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. There were lots of cool things to see and do there. One of our favorites was this screen. Images of a stream of little green pebbles fell down the screen, and when our shadows fell on the screen, we could sort of catch the pebbles.
