Spot The Real Kid

Daddy took this picture of me standing with a bunch of maniquins at Old Navy.

Swimming Lessons and Beads

Swimming lessons have started up again and I'm doing really well. I can still float and my specialty is swimming on my back. I went off the diving board and it felt like I was flying (in an OK way).

Now for the beads part. I have been making things out of beads on a pegboard. So far I have made a cake, a crab, a slice of cake, a butterfly and Santa's sleigh. When I'm done making them on the pegboard I take them to Daddy and he irons them so they all stick together.

That's all for now.

Sony Wonder Technology Lab

In New York City, we visited the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. There were lots of cool things to see and do there. One of our favorites was this screen. Images of a stream of little green pebbles fell down the screen, and when our shadows fell on the screen, we could sort of catch the pebbles.

Swimming (& Floating) Lessons

Me and my sister took swimming lessons this fall. My teacher was nice and my favorite thing to do was floating. I didn't know my hair splayed out like an octopus with a lot of little legs when I floated.

I also liked helping Jenna float. She still needs a little practice.

Here's an advance look at the cover for the new Boomer Sisters book. It'll be ready in time for Christmas!

Election Day at the Polling Place!

Our mom worked at the local polling place yesterday. She was an Election Official!

We got to pretend to be Election Officials too! That's us, sitting behing the Official Voting Table for the 31st Precinct with Mommy's new Election Official friends.

Mommy showed us how to use the computerized voting machines. It was awesome.

And then we pretended to vote on the computer. Mr. Tom showed us a real card to use with the machine, but Mommy didn't let us actually vote.

And then we pretended to vote again, this time in the booth for paper ballots, even though we didn't actually have ballots.

It was so much fun! Just 12 more years before Bethany can vote for real, and 16 more years for Jenna!

Halloween Costumes

We had a great time trick-or-treating tonight. Our costumes came from our great-aunt Bonnie - she and her sister wore them when they were little. Every house we went to said we were so cute.

Plays & Politics

First, let's do the play. I got the part of Lora in a play called An Island Christmas. It is a play that is put on at my church. We are going to perform at Christmas time. Lora is smart, resourceful and everyone's friend, according to the script. It is really fun being Lora.

I have never been in a play before. We are learning six songs to sing for the audience. I am trying out for a solo. I hope I get it.

Now for the politics.

I think McCain is being silly by raising the number of nuclear power plants. It's dangerous! I would rather see solar power plants. I like them better because it's a renewable source and it doesn't pollute at all. I think Obama will be a good president if he wins and I think McCain would be too - if he didn't raise the number of nuclear power plants.

Beth's Artwork

It took me about two days to do this drawing. It was fun and hard and challenging at the same time.

It is a picture of The Castle In The Mist. I was thinking about fairies and freedom when I made this drawing. My favorite part in this drawing is the moat.

Beth's Mandarin Lessons

I have been taking Mandarin lessons in school and it's fun and challenging at the same time.

My teacher is nice - very nice. Her name is Miss Wong. She has taught us Daddy, Mommy, Big Sister, Little Sister, Big Brother, Little Brother, Correct, Not Correct, Hello, Goodbye, Pencil, Eraser, and the numbers 1-6. That's a lot to remember. It's a fun challenge that I get to do with all my friends.

I have eaten Chinese chicken, carrots and dumplings with chopsticks - the right way. Dad and Mom taught me that. The dumpling was good. Even the meat.

Colors (by Beth)

I have done some very colorful artwork of houses. I can't find the notebook that they're in so I won't be able to post it today, but we'll try to find it and post it eventually.

I've also done some pretty good traces of unicorns lately.

I like doing pencil sketches and then coloring it in with crayons. If I could draw one thing really well, it would be a pegasus.

My art teacher at school is really, really nice, and she gives us cool projects like making a Van Gogh style painting. Mine is of a meadow with trees in it and a couple walking down a path through a meadow. My painting is not done yet, but if I'm allowed to bring it home, I'll have Daddy take a picture and post it here.

About Me

My name is Bethany. Since I won the Rock-Paper-Scissors game, I get to introduce myself first (usually my sister wins).

I'm 9 years old and in fourth grade. I like to read and do drawings. My favorite book is Whales On Stilts, by M. T. Anderson. This is a must-read!

I am very excited to have my own blog and I hope you'll come back often.
